Dialing the Noise Down

Aindriya Barua began coding when they were merely eleven. 16 years later, the computer science engineering graduate from India’s Tripura has made fighting hate speech a mission in their life. And they are doing it through Artificial Intelligence.

At just 24 years of age, Barua chose the gritty world of entrepreneurship, away from the comfort of lucrative tech jobs.

They built an AI tool armed with the capability of detecting hate comments on social media platforms, naming it Shhor AI (when translated to English, Shhor means noise). Shhor AI is India’s first content moderation SAAS API for business platforms. Barua runs a one-man show. This is a commendable feat because they are neurodivergent. “AI can be extremely helpful to disabled people,” says Barua who’s autistic and grapples with ADHD.

Barua says they’ve trained their model on eight different kinds of hate speeches. The name is a stark reminder that humanity needs to dial down the jarring, brash, and opinionated commentary on social media that has now become commonplace.

Shhor AI helped content moderators at Reddit. The platform festers bad comments. Through the bot, moderators set warnings for people who have been caught using hate speech.

All About Code-Mixing: Barua’s bot is unique because it can detect code-mixed typing. Common in developing countries, code mixing refers to the practice of using the QWERTY keyboard to type in a country’s native language. This creates a complex language with variable spellings. What Aindriya, therefore, has accomplished is a mammoth task of building a vast repository of hate comments in Hinglish (Hindi and English), to train their AI bot.

The Applause Followed: The technology is more advanced than any model used for tracking hate speech online. Till now, the bot has accumulated India’s most extensive ‘Hinglish’ real-world dataset of over 40,000 comments with first-of-its-kind research. Aindriya says there’s a lot more to accomplish. Their groundbreaking work won them acclaim from around the world. They were honoured by the USA Consulate General Judith Ravin and Political Economic Chief, USA, Virsa Perkins.

Shhor AI’s Works With Reddit: “Shhor AI helped content moderators at Reddit. The social media platform festers bad comments. Through the bot, moderators set warnings for people who have been caught using hate speech on the platform,” Barua explained.

As Cookies Crush, Future-Proof Your Business With UID 2.0

Samsung Canada just aced the art of measuring the impact of online marketing with actual to tangible sales figures, with a 19x improvement in attribution accuracy. Their secret weapon? No, not performance cookies but Unified ID 2.0 (UID 2.0), a privacy-first approach to advertising.

Why Care About Privacy: As GDPR and CCPA become stricter, UID 2.0 offers a way to comply with the regulations.

UID 2.0: What is It

UID 2.0 isn't a silver bullet, but it offers a powerful alternative to crumbly cookies. Here's a breakdown:

  • Privacy Matters: UID 2.0 uses anonymized data (hashed emails with user consent) to track journeys, respecting user privacy.

  • Bridging the Device Gap: Unlike cookies confined to a single device, UID 2.0 tracks users seamlessly across desktops, phones, and tablets, giving you a holistic view of their journey.

  • Accuracy All the Way: No more ghost cookies messing with your data. UID 2.0 provides accurate campaign measurement for better optimization.

While UID 2.0 addresses cookie limitations, it's part of a larger strategy. Here's how to leverage its power to the fullest:

  • First-Party Data is King: Use customer data (with permission) to create laser-focused audience segments for hyper-personalized ad experiences.

  • Context is Everything: Don't just rely on user IDs. Analyze the content users engage with. This contextual targeting ensures relevant ads that resonate. The Universal Music Group has reportedly deployed UID 2.0 to improve ad targeting for their music artists to recommend a new music release or sell concert tickets.

  • Invest in Customer Retention: The future of advertising is building strong customer relationships. Offer loyalty programs and personalized experiences to incentivize data collection to enhance brand loyalty.

UID 2.0 is a powerful tool, but it's the strategic approach that unlocks its true potential. Ditch the outdated methods and embrace a privacy-conscious, data-driven future for your ad campaigns.

Don’t miss it!
